Minisymposium Education and Outreach Meta-Perspectives on Mathematical Biology

Speakers

Prof. Philip Gerlee (Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden)Dr Benjamin Walker (University College London, UK)Dr Kira Pugh (Uppsala University, Sweden)Dr Parmvir Kaur Bahia (Artha Science Media)

Description

As the role of mathematical biology in society continues to expand, so too does the importance of reflecting on and understanding the field itself. In this minisymposium, we bring together meta-perspectives on mathematical biology that examine how the field interacts with both the scientific community and broader society. Our four speakers will address key interfaces of these interactions: policy-making \cite{gerlee}, education \cite{walker}, scientific publishing \cite{pugh}, and inclusive science communication \cite{bahia}. As such, this minisymposium will provide a forum in which to learn and discuss how mathematical biology is evolving in both scientific and societal contexts, and the ways in which we – as researchers, educators and science communicators – contribute to and shape this development.
