Minisymposium Multiscale and Multiphysics Modelling Multiscale Modeling of Stochastic Reaction–Diffusion Systems in Biology

Speakers

Mauricio del Razo (Free University of Berlin) Radek Erban (University of Oxford) Samuel Isaacson (Boston University) Stefanie Winkelmann (Zuse Institute Berlin)

Description

Stochastic reaction–diffusion systems provide a fundamental framework for modeling spatially structured biochemical processes such as gene regulation, neurotransmission, and protein clustering. This minisymposium focuses on efficient modeling and simulation approaches that bridge interacting particle-based descriptions and coarse-grained models, including compartment-based reaction–diffusion master equations and stochastic or deterministic partial differential equations. Topics cover coarse-graining limits, multiscale and hybrid methods, accurate numerical schemes, and biologically motivated applications in realistic cellular geometries.
